WELCOME TO PROFESSOR JOHNSON’S ADMINISTRATIVE LAW WEBSITE |
|
This course will examine the structure, function and role of the US government and the rule of law in a political society. Specifically, students will focus on 1) how the U.S. system of government functions; 2) the respective roles of each branch of government under a doctrine called “separation of powers;” 3) how a government bureaucracy works and the role of administrative agencies as regulators, licensors, and distributors of entitlements; and 4) what safeguards prevent US abuse of power or authority and facilitate cooperation among other nations. We will also focus on how special interests and the public impact the political process at the federal, state and local level. Over the course of the semester, each student will participate in small group exercises and make presentations on case studies and problems.
