Student Evaluations from Previous Programs

Over the last few years, Professor James Cooper has facilitated interactive learning experiences in Tijuana, Mexico, at the U.S.-Mexico border at Otay Mesa and San Isidro, in Santiago de Chile, in Toronto, Canada and in Montreal, Quebec.

Below, please find what some students have written about their experiences:

“Participating in the NAFTA Summer Program has been the most important thing I have done since entering law school.  Being able to learn about the most pressing legal, cultural, environmental and governmental issues on a transnational scale is something I wish every person had the opportunity to do.  I have never learned so much and had so much fun at the same time.”

- Aron Beezley, California Western School of Law Student 2006

“I doubt that any of the other summer programs came close to the kind of real world relevance – cutting-edge stuff – that we were able to experience.

Thank goodness that I took part in the NAFTA Summer Program.  It served to energize me and solidify why I am in law school.

Not only did I learn so much about the world around me, but I feel like I have been reacquainted with myself.”

- Porcia Dunifin, William Mitchell College of Law Student 2006.

“Thanks again for offering such a unique adventure in such an accessible manner.”

“If action in law is what you are looking for than attending the NAFTA Summer Program will be the best decision you make in all of law school. The professors will quickly lead you to the exact locations where important and critical issues of international law are being framed. They will introduce you to the exact people who work on, and fight over, these issues everyday. Finally, they will inspire you to become aware and active in such issues as market globalization and its effect on labor and the environment.

The experiences you will have in the NAFTA Summer Program will be unlike any other in law school. You will speak with the major players, visit border environmental clean up sites, and learn about typical operations at a maquiladora. Where else in law school are field trips the norm? I endorse the NAFTA Summer Program because it awakened my senses to the issues that surround us in San Diego everyday.”

- Brian Dodds, California Western School of Law Student 2005

“The NAFTA Summer Program was chock full of interesting trips, informative speakers and was definitely a hands-on experience that enlightened and inspired me to pursue different paths in my legal career. As such, I would have to say it was one of the best courses in my law school career.

The people and experiences made it feel like a legal ‘camp’ rather than school!”

- Sankeetha Selvarajah, New England School of Law Student 2005
