Introduction to the Fair Trade Academy

n July and early August 2007, the Consortium for Innovative Legal Education, of which California Western School of Law is a member, again offers an intensive summer program in the laws concerning NAFTA and other international trade agreements.

The program runs from July 9 to August 3, 2007 and consists of three courses.

The program coursework utilizes lectures, site visits, and workshops in San Diego, Tijuana, and other parts of Baja California, Mexico to explore how NAFTA and other international trade agreements address border, environmental, immigration, and labor issues. 


Classes will be held on locations around the region (factories, migrant labor camps, government offices, law enforcement facilities, and courtrooms) and on campus at California Western School of Law. 

Students must take all three units, totaling five units    

The courses offered as part of the Fair Trade Academy include:  

  • Introduction to NAFTA and Other International Trade Agreements (2 units) – Professor James Cooper

  • NAFTA and International Labor and Employment Law (1 unit) – Professor Ruben Garcia

  • NAFTA and International Environmental Law (2 units) – Professor Richard Finkmoore
