With more than sixty years of law practice experience on our staff, we have deep knowledge of how to develop a successful career in the law.
Courtney Miklusak, Esq., Director
Courtney is responsible for all Career Services operations and actively promotes California Western to the legal community to maximize opportunities available to you. Her job is to make sure you have the skills and information necessary to access the opportunities you desire. After graduating from California Western School of Law, Courtney practiced both civil litigation and transactional law in San Diego. She worked in small and medium size private law firms for seven years prior to joining the Career Services Office. Courtney works to develop and strengthen relationships between the Career Services Office and legal employers and to create job opportunities for law students and graduates. As well, she counsels law students regularly, tapping into her immense knowledge of the legal market in San Diego and beyond.
Angela Kim Zugman, Esq., Associate Director
Angela counsels first, second and third year students and oversees Career Services programs to ensure that students are knowledgeable about and prepared for the legal market. Angela works closely with the Director to develop and strengthen relationships between the Career Services Office and legal employers to create job opportunities for law students and graduates. With seven years of experience in private practice, including work in medium and large size private law firms, Angela has tremendous knowledge of what it takes to be successful in law practice, and thus greatly enhances students’ marketability. Angela is also involved in numerous and diverse legal and community-based organizations and coordinates with various legal professionals to provide unique networking opportunities for our law students.
Jill Blatchley, Esq.,
Career Advisor & Pro Bono and Public Service Program Coordinator
Jill has broad legal experience in private law firms, in government agencies and in the courts. As well, she holds a professional certificate in career counseling. Having practiced law in San Diego for more than ten years, and with a strong understanding of the career development process, Jill is a tremendous resource for all students. Jill regularly counsels students and also coordinates and develops our Pro Bono Program, through which many students gain their first law clerking experiences while simultaneously making important contributions to our community.
Suzanne Miu Davidson, Esq., Career Advisor
Suzanne is responsible for our Mentor Program which matches second and third year students with practicing lawyers having similar interests. She is currently working with Lou and Courtney to coordinate and further develop the mentor program. Suzanne has practiced for over five years in both litigation and transactional matters in private and public sectors from medium-sized law firms to non-profit entities. Her broad experience will provide students insight in developing a professional legal career.
Catherine Zingale, Esq., Graduate Career Advisor
Cathy works specifically with third year students and recent graduates to help them target potential employers and find post-graduate jobs. An attorney with more than ten years of experience as a government hearing officer and attorney at small and medium size private law firms in San Diego, Cathy is very knowledgeable about both the private and public sector legal communities and their hiring practices. She is a terrific resource for graduating students and alumni.
Robin Lake, Esq., Seasonal Career Advisor
Robin has over twenty years of transactional law experience in San Diego. She practiced for eight years with a large national firm and has also worked with private medium-sized and small law firms. Robin’s broad background provides her with insight into the legal market and how to thrive in a law practice. She counsels students of all levels and assists the Career Services Office with its many programs designed to support students with their career development.
Jacqlyn Christiansen,
Manager of Career Services Projects & Support
Jacqlyn is the Career Services office manager and point person for disseminating information about job opportunities to you. She graduated from Kansas State University with her B.S. in Business, with an emphasis in Marketing. Her background includes marketing, public relations, event planning and sales. Jacqlyn handles all logistics associated with employer relations, on-campus interviews and regional and national job fairs. She manages our Online Job Database and keeps you apprised of job opportunities as they arise, as well as managing our Career Services operations.
Wanda Harvey-Amoke, Administrative Assistant
Wanda is your front line contact in the office. Wanda has her B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Service Sector Management from California State University - San Marcos and is here to assist you during the day time hours. Wanda will direct you to the appropriate resources so your questions are answered quickly. She also helps make our office your office so you are able to research and communicate with employers easily, effectively and professionally. Wanda's experience in customer service allows her to be a tremendous help to you in your job search efforts. Just ask!
Lou Helmuth, Esq.
After being the Assistant Dean of Career Services for the past 12 years, Lou Helmuth has recently stepped down. Lou has a background in federal litigation, non-profit and in-house corporate counsel work. He actively promotes California Western to the legal community to maximize the opportunities available to you. His years of experience in law practice and as a hiring partner give Lou valuable knowledge which will benefit you in the pursuit of your professional aspirations.
