Born and raised in Texas, Professor Black has taught Legal Skills for over 14 years, variously at University of San Diego, California Western, Roger Williams School of Law, and now again at California Western.  A double University of Texas graduate (B.S. In Communications, 1982; J.D. 1985), Professor Black initially practiced law in Dallas, Texas, first as a litigation attorney with the firm of Bliss & Hughes and later as an attorney with the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region VI.  Characterizing Texas as a "great place to be from," Professor Black "packed up the truck" and moved to San Diego in 1987.  When not teaching law, Professor Black devotes her time to the important task of raising her teenage daughter; the quixotic task of raising her husband of 26 years; volunteering for the Citizens Diplomacy Council; counseling victims of wildfire (having survived one herself); serving on the Anatomical Advisory Board for the UCSD School of Medicine; organizing and administering her religious congregation; and following her newest addiction — international soccer.  For several years Professor Black tutored aspiring lawyers taking the Bar Exam; she helped create the CWSL Bar Exam preparation class, and she currently teaches the CWSL Introduction to Legal Skills course.
