SofTest Tech Tips
These are a few tips to help you get SofTest set up and avoid some common problems people have during exam time.
Windows Update
It is important that you run all the Microsoft updates prior to exam day. This
is especially important for those of you who use a particular computer
only for exams, and those of you who use Macs and only boot into
Windows for exams. If you don’t do all the updates, then your computer may try to install updates while you are trying to run SofTest.
Run Windows Update, and let it install all the updates listed as High Priority or Critical. Once it is complete, run it again. You may find that there are still more updates to install. In law school, you have to take Contracts I before you can take Contracts II. In computers, you sometimes have to install certain updates in order for other updates to show up on the list. So run the update program over and over until there are no more updates showing up when you run the program.
Run The Mock Exam
Among your regular exam files, there is a mock exam. We strongly
recommend that you run the mock exam in the week prior to your first
exam. This will show you how the program works, and will test
your system to make sure everything will work smoothly. If
everything goes smoothly during the mock exam, you will probably not
have any problems. If you have problems when running the mock
exam, go see the computer tech.
Anti-Virus Software
Some anti-virus software does not get along well with SofTest.
ExamSoft has a page listing popular anti-virus software and
instructions for how to keep them from interfering with SofTest. Click here for instructions for using anti-virus software with SofTest.
If you have any problems or questions, don't hesitate to go see your friendly computer technicians.
