Information for Students
Information for Clients

The Trademark Clinic at California Western School of Law provides free legal services for individuals and small businesses wishing to obtain a federal trademark or service mark from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Our students, working under the supervision of a California-licensed attorney, provide legal assistance to clients who can afford the administrative filing fees but do not have the means to hire an attorney to advise them.

Legal assistance services include:

The clinic does not represent clients in court or before administrative boards, such as the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Nor can the Trademark Clinic file international applications, such as under the Madrid protocol.

The California Western Trademark Clinic is an official part of the Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Program administered by the USPTO.

The Trademark Clinic is now accepting requests from potential clients. Although clients may have an existing business, we can also work with those who are currently contemplating opening a business and are concerned with protecting a mark they hope to use with that business.

To find out if you are eligible for our services, please complete the Request for Services form on our website, and email or fax it to the contact information below. Please note that submission of a completed Request for Services form does not guarantee that we can or will represent you and does not start our representation of you. You will become a client only after we determine your eligibility and you sign a formal engagement letter that we will provide to you.
