Different Types of CWSL Addresses
Forwarding Your Email

At California Western School of Law, we have our own email system for students.  Official school notices are sent to your CWSL email address.  It is the responsibility of each student to check his or her CWSL email regularly.  

To access your CWSL email:
  1. From any page on the CWSL website, click the "Current Students" block near the top of the page. 
  2. From the "Current Students" page, click the "Student Email System" link.
  3. Log in with your CWSL network ID and password.
Technical note:  Just in case you are interested, the web address for the email site is https://lex.cwsl.edu.

Your mailbox has a storage capacity of 250 MB.  If you exceed this amount, you will not be able to send or receive email, so it is important that you keep track of how much space you have used.  On the left hand side there is a bar that shows how much space you have used in your mailbox.

Whenever you send email, a copy is automatically saved to your Sent folder.

Whenever you delete an email message, it is automatically put in your Deleted folder.  This way, if you delete something on accident, you can go back and "pull it out of the trash".

Both the Sent folder and the Deleted folder count against your 250 MB total, so it is important to empty the trash occasionally.

When you are in the Deleted folder, there is a link which will allow you to empty the entire Deleted folder:



This link does not appear in any other folder.

CWSL Email Addresses

Email addresses for faculty and staff are slightly different than the email addresses for students.

A staff member address will be "staff@cwsl.edu"

A student address will be "lawstudent@law.cwsl.edu"

It is important that you address your email messages correctly.

Forwarding Your Email

Students have the option of forwarding their email to another address.  On the left hand side of the email window, click on the "Preferences" link.

On the Preferences page, under the User Settings tab, you will find the "Forward To" field.  You can enter an email address in this field, and all email sent to your CWSL email address from that time onward will automatically be forwarded to the other address.  You must click the "Save" button for any changes to take effect.

Important:  If you use this feature, you must test it to make sure that your email is being forwarded to the correct address.  Send an email to your CWSL email address, and make sure you can read it at the other address.

Example: Mr. Law Student wants all his email to go to student@someotherplace.edu.  Mr. Student makes the change to the preferences on his account.  Then Mr. Student sends an email message to lawstudent@law.cwsu.edu.  After sending the message, Mr. Student then checks his email at someotherplace.edu, to make sure that the test message arrived.

If you have forwarded your email, your CWSL mailbox does not keep a copy of the emails that it sends on to the other address.   Any email messages that come to your CWSL email address bounce right back out, and are sent to the other address.

If you want to keep a copy in your CWSL mailbox, put a period and a comma in front of the forwarding address, like this:  .,student@someotherplace.edu.

If you do keep a copy of the emails you are forwarding, you have to remember to check your CWSL mailbox, to make sure it doesn't get full.
