Authority on International Law to discuss role of lawyers in NAFTA
Professor Robert Lutz to speak at California Western as part of NAFTA Summer Program

SAN DIEGO, April 18, 2006 – Southwestern Law School Professor Robert Lutz, one of legal education’s foremost authorities on international law, will speak at California Western Thursday, June 15, 2006, Noon – 1 p.m. in Room 2F. Lutz will speak to students enrolled in California Western’s NAFTA Summer Program 2006, an intensive summer program in the laws concerning NAFTA and future hemispheric trade.
Lutz will talk about the NAFTA dispute settlement, explaining the various roles of arbitrators and lawyers and the constitutional challenges involved. Lutz will also discuss his personal experiences as a member of the NAFTA advisory committee on private commercial dispute settlement.
Lutz has served on arbitration panels under the North American Free Trade Agreement and the U.S. Canada Free Trade Agreement, and was founding chair of the Center for International Commercial Arbitration.
He has published extensively on international business and environmental law, and has served as editor-in-chief of leading periodicals including The International Lawyer. He has also been a member of the editorial advisory boards of a dozen international law journals, and has presented papers at various legal conferences and public hearings around the world. His expertise is also sought by entities such as the U.S. State Department, the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Centre on Transnational Corporations, and the Hong Kong Centre on Commercial Arbitration.
He has held several top positions in the most influential organizations in the international law community, including positions with the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Association of American Law Schools. He is co-founder of the California State Bar Section on International Law.
