Welcome to California Western’s Student Intellectual Property Law Association (SIPLA). The association offers a forum for students to discuss patent, trademark, copyright, licensing, trade secrets, unfair competition and other issue related to the intellectual property. One of the goals is to provide information regarding career paths and to develop contacts with local intellectual property law attorneys.
Our group organizes speaker events each semester that advance students’ knowledge of IP-related topics and gives them information that is critical to launching a successful career in intellectual property law. For example, in the Spring of 2008, the club will be hosting a speaker who will discuss the requirements of sitting for the Patent Bar Exam and will describe the time commitments involved in studying for the exam.
Additionally, California Western School of Law offers an area of concentration in Intellectual Property that may accompany a student’s J.D. degree. The area of concentration requires, among another things, 280 hours of an internship in the IP field. This experience is invaluable to anyone trying to break into the IP field. For more information on the IP area of concentration, please contact Professor Johnson at ajohnson@cwsl.edu.
