Transfer Students

General Transfer Information

  • Academic performance in law school is a critical consideration in the admissions process.
  • Before applying, you must have successfully completed one year (approximately 30 credits) of law school in a J.D. program at an ABA law school.
  • If you were academically disqualified from law school, you are not eligible to apply for transfer admission.
  • We can accept up to 44 credits (with a grade of C or better) from law schools that are : 1) approved by the ABA, and 2) are AALS members.
  • We can accept up to 30 credits (with a grade of C or better) from law schools that are approved by the ABA, but are not AALS members.
  • We also consider your LSAT score and your undergraduate grade point average in this process.

Credit Valuation & Academic Standing

  • In determining whether California Western's academic requirements have been met through coursework completed at another law school, California Western examines course descriptions, syllabi, your transcript, and other sources.
  • No credit is given for any course taken at another law school in which the grade received was below a C (i.e., credits of C- and below do not transfer).
  • In a course taken at another law school in which you received a grade of C- or below, but did not fail the course, the following will apply:
    • the course need not be repeated
    • the course will not be shown on your California Western transcript
    • the course credits will not count towards the total unit graduation requirement, and
    • the course credits will count towards satisfaction of the residency requirement
