California Western School of Law mourns the passing of Craig D. Higgs and pays tribute to the tremendous impact he had on the law school.
Craig, who was Higgs, Fletcher & Mack’s (HFM) longest serving partner, was a pillar of the San Diego legal community and a big supporter of California Western students.
Although Craig was not a California Western graduate, he came from a family that included an alumnus. In his book, “Odyssey of a Law School” the late California Western Professor Emeritus George N. Gafford mentions Craig’s father, DeWitt A. Higgs, as one of the first students who attended Balboa Law School—the forerunner of California Western.
At HFM, Craig initially practiced defense work and subsequently started a highly successful mediation practice. He was a wonderful mediator who generously allowed California Western’s mediation clinic students to observe him in action.
Despite his busy schedule, Craig always made time every year to come to California Western to talk with the students and provide them encouragement.
California Western extends its sincerest condolences to Craig’s wife Cynthia Aaron, his children and family, colleagues, and friends.
