“Everything goes better with ice cream,” says third-year student Catherine Garcia, at California Western’s annual Ice Cream Social, held July 24 in the Castetter Courtyard for students, faculty, and staff.
“It’s wonderful,” said 3L Marcelo Rivas. “Beautiful San Diego weather and you get free ice cream!
Rivas summed up the whole idea of the event—sponsored by Student & Diversity Services—to just relax and chill on a hot day with free ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.
“What is better to do on a great afternoon like this?” said Dean Niels B. Schaumann as he welcomed everyone to the party. He pointed out that President Ronald Reagan declared July National Ice Cream Month in 1988, to be observed with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
“I can’t think of anything more appropriate than eating ice cream,” Schaumann said.
"It’s great to eat ice cream when we’re a couple of weeks away from finals,” said 1L Erin Murphy. “We’re all pretty stressed, so it’s nice to have a treat.”
“The school shows appreciation to their students and we take advantage of it,” said 3L Roxanne de la Rocha.
“It’s great comfort food, said Iris Gomez ’14, who is studying for the July bar exam, as she worked on a flavor called Chocolate Therapy.
