A student providing pro bono work to the community

Pro Bono Program

What is the Pro Bono Program?

California Western's Career and Professional Development Office facilitates the law school's pro bono program, in which participating students gain career-shaping legal training in multiple organizations around San Diego in a wide variety of law fields. Additionally, participating students help to address the unmet legal needs of disadvantaged or underrepresented individuals and the nonprofit organizations that serve their community.

In addition to quality practical legal training and high levels of personal and professional satisfaction, California Western officially recognizes students who complete 50 or more hours of service through the pro bono program with induction into the Pro Bono Honors Society, official notation on their transcripts, and award certificates signed by the dean of the law school.

For more information on how to participate in the program as well as a list of participating organizations, please review the Pro Bono Program Handout.

Public Service Program

What is the Public Service Program?

California Western's public service program recognizes students who provide volunteer legal services to city, county, state, and federal government organizations—including the judiciary—after completion of their first year coursework. Students receive excellent training and mentorship while also donating valuable legal services to critical government offices such as the District Attorney's, U.S. Attorney's and Local, District, and Appellate Courts.

In addition to quality practical legal training and high levels of personal and professional satisfaction, California Western officially recognizes students who complete 50 or more hours of service through the public service program with induction into the Public Service Honors Society, official notation on their transcripts, and award certificates signed by the dean of the law school.

For more information on how to participate in the public service program as well as a list of participating organizations, please review the Public Service Program Handout.
