California Western believes a diverse student body enriches the academic and interpersonal experiences of law school. The faculty and staff welcome each student into the school community and encourage all students to participate in the numerous academic, multicultural, pre-professional, and social opportunities present at the law school.  Our activities include organizing lunchtime discussions about a current issue, co-sponsoring events with student organizations, working with affinity bar associations on scholarship opportunities, and counseling students on their transition to law school. Each law school opportunity, event, and activity reflect California Western’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Jeff Chinn, Associate Director of Student and Diversity Services, brings over 20 years of experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations to the office. In Wahington, D.C., he directed a program that taught basic legal rights to youth in the juvenile justice system. Later, Chinn was Assistant Director of the law school’s California Innocence Project and worked to free the wrongfully convicted. In addition, he has been active with several non-profit organizations and causes in D.C. and San Diego, including the affinity bar associations. Locally, Chinn’s activities have ranged from being board president of the ACLU for San Diego and Imperial Counties to feeding the homeless on Sundays.

  • Diversity Programs

    The Student and Diversity Services offers a wide range of services to students with the goal of promoting an inclusive law school community. Services available to students include mentoring; coaching; advising; assisting students in solving problems; finding resources; and the development of leadership skills.

  • Diversity Coalition of Student Organizations

    The Diversity Coalition of Student Organizations offers peer support, connections with local and national affinity bar associations, and opportunities to participate in community service activities.
