Government Documents

The Library purchases some government documents in addition to those mentioned in earlier sections. Please check KIM to see if the library has the title you need. (Many documents are available online through our catalog).

The San Diego Public Library is a full depository for state and federal government documents, and the San Diego County Law Library is a partial depository library. Please request assistance if you are not able to easily locate the government material you need.

Microfilm and Microfiche

Our microfilm collection includes:

  • Congressional Hearings and Reports
  • Supreme Court Briefs from 1933 to 2009
  • The Congressional Record and Federal Register
  • The California Register and California Code of Regulations
  • The State Session Laws
  • Most state bar journals and bar exams
  • The Los Angeles Daily Journal
  • Holdings of other legal newspapers and periodicals

Please consult KIM or speak to one of our Reference Librarians if you need assistance.

The Library has a Canon MS300 Microfiche reader/scanner. Users may read microform/microfiche with this machine and they also may scan the microform material.  Scanned material can then be sent via email or saved to a USB storage device.  There is no printer attached to the microform reader/scanner.  If necessary, please request assistance from the Reference Librarian to operate this equipment.

Audio, Video and Interactive CD - Rom Collection

Audio and video tapes are included in our online catalog and are housed in the Reserve Room. Commercial tapes may be checked out to any authorized CWSL patron for a 24 hour time period.

We also have tape recorders and headphones which can be checked out for use in the building.

CWSL students may view video tapes in any of our study rooms with TV and VCR equipment. Other patrons authorized to check out video tapes must go off-campus to view these tapes.

Most course reserve videos and CD’S circulate for two hours and may be checked out only by CWSL students. Students are encouraged to view course reserve tapes in the Study Rooms with video equipment.

Practicing Law Institute's Interactive Courtroom is available for checkout at the Reserve Desk. It must be used in the Student Computer Lab, and is available only to CWSL faculty, students and authorized attorneys enrolled in our Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy (ICDA).

A California Western I.D. card or ICDA registration must be presented for use of these materials. Technical questions about these special programs should be directed to the Computer Research Librarian during regular working hours.
