Constitutional Law Faculty Preview Upcoming Supreme Court Term at Annual First Monday Program

California Western School of Law welcomed students, alumni, faculty, and members of
the legal community for its annual First Monday program, offering an in-depth look
at the U.S. Supreme Court's 2026-2027-term.
Moderated by Dean and President Miriam H. Baer, the discussion featured constitutional
law scholars Chief Justice Roger Traynor Professor of Law William J. Aceves, Clara
Shortridge Foltz Professor of Law Jessica K. Fink, and Professor of Law Lisa Shaw
Roy.
Each professor examined a significant case scheduled for review by the Supreme Court
during the upcoming term. Professor Fink discussed Crowther v. Board of Regents, Professor Aceves explored Viramontes v. Cook County, and Professor Roy analyzed St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy. Through their presentations, the faculty highlighted the constitutional questions
and potential wider implications surrounding each case.
Following the case analyses, Professor Fink provided a broad overview of the Supreme
Court's new term, outlining some of the major legal issues and areas of focus expected
to come before the Court in the months ahead.
Leading our Q&A session, Dean Baer prompted the panelists to consider the financial
and economic factors that helped shape these cases. Students, alumni, faculty, and
other guests were then invited to engage directly with the faculty on these cases
and other issues related to the Court's upcoming term.
