SAN DIEGO, July 1, 2025 – California Western School of Law (CWSL) is proud to welcome Dean and President & Professor of Law Miriam Baer to campus as she officially begins her new role effective July 1, 2025. A nationally recognized scholar in white-collar crime and an experienced leader in legal education, Dean Baer brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and vision to the CWSL community.

Dean Baer joins CWSL after 17 years at Brooklyn Law School, where she most recently served as Vice Dean and Centennial Professor of Law. Her teaching and scholarship explore the intersection of business law and criminal misconduct, with particular focus on whistleblowing, corporate surveillance, and federal enforcement. Her 2023 book, Myths and Misunderstandings in White-Collar Crime, has received national acclaim, and her work is frequently cited in court opinions, legal texts, and the media.

Before entering academia, Dean Baer served as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan and as assistant general counsel for compliance at Verizon, experience that informs both her scholarship and her commitment to practice-ready legal education.

“I am honored to join California Western School of Law and humbled to extend its hundred years’ legacy of preparing practice-ready lawyers, skilled problem-solvers, and thoughtful advocates for justice,” Dean Baer said. “As San Diego’s oldest law school enters its next century, I look forward to joining California Western’s close-knit and talented community in imparting the fundamental knowledge, skills, and experience that will motivate our students to thrive and excel in a rapidly evolving legal landscape.”
