Homeless Outreach Legal Society 2026 Kickoff

On October 29, the Homeless Outreach Legal Society (HOLS) hosted its 2026 Kickoff Event at California Western School of Law.
Founder and Advisor Emiliano Cruz '24 opened the program by introducing the organization and its mission to connect law students with direct advocacy and community outreach for the displaced.
Dean and President Miriam H. Baer delivered welcoming remarks emphasizing the importance of civic engagement in legal education, followed by Jeff Chinn, Associate Director of Student Affairs, who spoke about HOLS’s collaboration with Burrito Boyz to coordinate clothing, sock, and hygiene kit drives throughout downtown San Diego. Shamine Linton, Founder of Sharia’s Closet, shared her organization’s belief that every person deserves dignity, describing how their volunteer-driven network provides free emergency clothing and hygiene products to individuals and families in crisis. Representatives from the City of San Diego’s Homeless Strategies Division then outlined the City’s Safe Parking and Safe Sleeping programs, as well as other services available to residents experiencing homelessness.
