A California Western School of Law (CWSL) Competitive Advocacy Program Trial Team finished as semi-finalists this past weekend. The team of 2L Caleb Morales, 2L Alexa Acuna, 3L Ashlyn Plant, and 3L Akeel Najimudeen advanced to the semi-final round at the 8th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Trial Competition, hosted by UC Davis School of Law.

The competition brought together 16 teams from top law schools across the country, including Brooklyn Law School, University of Virginia School of Law, Texas A&M University School of Law, University of Richmond School of Law, Florida State University College of Law, University of Southern California Gould School of Law, University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, University of San Diego School of Law, William & Mary Law School, Loyola University Chicago School of Law, University of California Law San Francisco, and the University of Texas School of Law.

After three strong qualifying rounds, CWSL earned a place in the semi-final round, facing off against the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in a hard-fought match. Although Arkansas narrowly advanced to the finals, California Western proudly finished as semi-finalists—and notably, as the only California school among the top four teams.

The team was coached by Adjunct Professor Daniel Korchnoy ’18 and Anthony Esquibel ’17, both distinguished alumni of CWSL’s Competitive Advocacy Program. Our program is strong because of our dedicated and committed alums that return after graduating to shape the next generation of students. We're incredibly proud of this team!
